How to read the size (thickness) of sewing thread

TR-007 (3)

There are two main types of sewing thread: staple and long fiber. The thickness and size of sewing thread are divided into two categories.

The first category is staple fiber sewing thread: characterized by the residual staple fiber hairiness on the surface. The specifications and models of staple fibers are listed in the “?S “/”?The number after the slash represents the number of shares.Such as regular short fiber sewing thread are: 60 S / 2, 60 S / 3, 50/3 S / 2, 50 S, 40 S / 2, 40 S / 3, 30 S / 3, 20 S / 2/3, 20 S, 20 S / 4;20 s / 9 d, etc. Before the sewing thread number: 20,40,50,60, etc. all refer to the number of yarn. The number of yarn can be simply understood as the thickness of the yarn. The higher the number, the finer the yarn will be.The 2 and 3 at the back of the model respectively means that the sewing thread is made of several strands of yarn and twisted. For example :40S/2 refers to a polyester sewing thread made of two 40-strand strands;2020s /3 refers to three polyester sewing threads made of 20 single yarns combined. In the same way,202 refers to two polyester sewing threads made of 20 strands. The higher the count, the thinner the thread and the smaller the strength. And the same number of yarn twist and into the sewing thread, the more the number, the thicker the line, the greater the strength.

Line thickness comparison: 203>202>403>402=603>602;The 602 line strength comparison is similar to the line thickness!Generally speaking: 602 lines are used for thin fabrics, such as the real silk worn in summer, qiao Qi yarn;603 and 402 threads can be generally used. They are the most common sewing threads and can be used for all kinds of common fabrics, such as cotton, hemp, polyester, viscose and so on.403 thread is used for thicker fabric, such as fabric made of cloth, etc.202 and 203 lines can also be called denim line, the line is thicker, strong, used for denim, bags and other sewing.

The second type is long fiber sewing thread: it refers to the continuous (polyester) long fiber sewing thread of 20%.It is characterized by smooth surface without hairiness and stronger pulling force.

The specifications and models of staple fibers are listed in the “?D “/”?The D number refers to the thickness of a single filament. The larger the D number is, the thicker the diameter of a single filament is.The number of shares after the slash,

Says the line is synthesized from a few strands of monofilament, long fiber sewing thread of conventional models are as follows: 120 D / 3150 D / 3210 D / 2210 D / 3250 D / 3300 D / 3420 D / 3630 D / 3840 D / 3105/3 and 1260 D / 3 D.So 210D/3 means that this line is made up of three 210D monofilaments.This is the standard size for long fiber sewing thread.
