The Difference Between Resin Buttons and Plastic Buttons

Are resin buttons and plastic buttons the same thing? A common misconception is that resin is a plastic material. In fact, plastic is a type of resin.

The main difference here is that there are natural resins and synthetic resins. Natural resin refers to the amorphous organic material obtained from the secretions of animals and plants in nature. Resin is a transparent, light yellow, viscous and volatile liquid. During processing, the resin hardens into a transparent solid material such as rosin, amber, shellac, etc. Synthetic resin refers to the simple organic compounds by chemical synthesis or some natural products by chemical reaction and resin products, such as phenolic resin, polyvinyl chloride resin.

Plastic, on the other hand, is a synthetic chemical. Simply put, synthetic resins are the main material of plastics. Plastics are made from petrochemicals and natural materials. Plastics can be further divided into several different sub-types, such as acrylates, polyesters, silicones, polyurethanes, and so on. There are also plastics made from renewable plant material, known as bioplastics.

The difference between resin buttons and plastic buttons

In addition to raw materials, another key difference between resin buttons and plastic buttons is the manufacturing process.

Because of the different manufacturing process, the surface of the resin button looks cleaner and brighter, while the product is more thick and widely used. However, plastic buttons are more diverse and suitable for electroplating because of their advantages of simpler forming process.
